Prof. Dr. Alexander Titz

Über

Alexander Titz studierte Chemie an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt und der Universität Bordeaux I. Seine Diplomarbeit fertigte er bei Novartis Pharma AG in der Protein Structure Unit an. Nach der Promotion (2008) an der Universität Basel zur Medizinischen Chemie von Kohlenhydrat-Protein-Interaktionen forschte er bis zum Jahr 2010 als PostDoc am Institut für Mikrobiologie der ETH Zürich. Für seine Forschungsarbeiten erhielt er 2010 den Klaus-Grohe-Preis für Medizinische Chemie.

Nach einer Tätigkeit als Nachwuchsgruppenleiter am Zukunftskolleg der Universität Konstanz zum Thema Kohlenhydrate-Chemie und Biofilm Inhibition von 2010 bis 2013, wechselte Alexander Titz im Sommer 2013 als Leiter der Arbeitsgruppe ‚Chemische Biologie der Kohlenhydrate‘ ans Helmholtz-Institut für Pharmazeutische Forschung Saarland, einer Außenstelle des Helmholtzzentrums für Infektionsforschung. Die Arbeitsgruppe ist zudem Teil des Deutschen Zentrums für Infektionsforschung, einem nationalen Zusammenschluss im Rahmen der Deutschen Gesundheitszentren. Alexander Titz lehrt seit 2014 an der Universität des Saarlandes, seit 2018 als Juniorprofessor für Chemische Biologie.

Seit 2017 wird seine Forschung durch einen ERC Starting Grant des Europäischen Forschungs Rats gefördert. Im Jahr 2018 wurde er mit dem Innovationspreis für Medizinische/Pharmazeutische Chemie der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker und der Deutschen Pharmazeutischen Gesellschaft sowie dem Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Academia von der Europäischen Föderation für Medizinische Chemie (EFMC) ausgezeichnet. Im Jahr 2019 erhielt Alexander Titz einen Ruf auf die Professur für Organische Chemie an der Universität Osnabrück. Seit 2020 hat Alexander Titz eine Professur für Organische und Pharmazeutische Chemie an der Universität des Saarlandes inne.
