Marces Calvin-Brown
About
Marces completed his Bachelor degree in chemistry at the Saarland University (UdS) in March 2021. For his Master degree in chemistry, Marces continued his studies at the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) in the same year. There he conducted research on the application of pharmaceutical nanoparticles in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company MyBiotech and completed his Master studies in September 2023. Since March 2024, Marces has started his PhD program under the supervision of Prof. Martin Empting and is currently working on the synthesis and derivatization of novel small molecule inhibitors against bacterial and viral targets. One of them is the bacterial carbon storage regulator A protein (CsrA) which is a crucial transcription factor present in many Gram-negative pathogens, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
